Dental Anxiety

Dental Anxiety

It is not uncommon for people to feel anxious while visiting the dentist. It could be due to misconceptions that dental procedures would be painful and involve the use of sophisticated equipment. However, this isn't the case, as we take every possible precaution to ensure you have a painless and convenient dental visit.

How do we comfort young patients?

Children and young teenagers usually tend to feel too scared to visit the dentist and often make a fuss about it. One important factor that comforts them is the approach dentists follow. A welcoming, warm, and friendly approach calms and reassures them. This is especially true in the case of family dentistry, as the child would be comforted by a familiar face. In case the child is too nervous, we may administer mild sedatives, such as nitrous oxide, to calm their nerves. It is a harmless sedative that makes the patient relax and even makes the most ordinary things seem funny and amusing.

Can nitrous oxide be used for adults?

Of course. Nitrous oxide is a gaseous sedative that has to be inhaled through a comfortably fitting mask on the nose and mouth. Upon inhaling, the sedative calms the patient within a few minutes, and it lasts for a considerable duration, during which the dentist would treat you. The sedative wears off by itself and wouldn't have any adverse effects. Besides, we suggest sedation only if it is absolutely necessary.
